RES411 CE STUDY 1: ALL STUDENTS SHOULD HAVE THE COPY OF THE GUIDEBOOK, NO GUIDEBOOK, NO ATTENDANCE8/29/2018 IT IS A MUST THAT EVERY STUDENT SHOULD HAVE A COPY OF THE GUIDEBOOK. It is also strongly instructed that every student should read the Guidebook and understand the contents of it. If you have questions or clarifications in the contents of the Guidebook, please raise them during the class for the information of everyone.
PLEASE TAKE NOTE THAT, IT IS THE RESPONSIBILITY OF EVERY STUDENT to read the Guidebook because not every line in the document will be discussed in the class. This is also the reason why that this Guidebook and other required reading/reference materials are posted in the website for you to read, not solely dependent on what it is given in the class. THIS IS TO INFORM THE CIVIL ENGINEERING CLASS that for the 1st Progress Report, all groups received the grade/rating of 0/100. It means that you failed to submit the first progress report.
FOR THIS WEEK PROGRESS REPORT (LAST WEEK OF AUGUST), IF YOU HAVE DONE REVISION IN YOUR RESEARCH REPORT, then your group should submit the revised version of it to prove that the revision/modification was done. Otherwise, your second progress report will not receive the corresponding grade/rating or points. Please take note that it is more than a month after the research proposal oral defense was held, thus it is expected that your group has substantially done improvement in your report. AGAIN, THE PROGRESS REPORT WILL BE SUBMITTED EVERY WEEK. It will be signed by all members and the noted by the adviser. Moreover, your group should revise the GANTT CHART, incorporating or adding the details activities in the conduct of your research. What stipulated in the template chart are very general activities which are applicable to all. BE SPECIFIC WITH YOUR ACTIVITIES (site visit, rewriting of chapters, surveys, modelling, testing/experiments, interviews, and modelling, etc.). Milestones should be reflected in the REMARKS column. REMINDER: IF YOUR GROUP DID NOT SUBMIT YOUR E-FILE POWER POINT PRESENTATION OF THE ORAL DEFENSE, YOU WILL BE INCOMPLETE IN THE MIDTERM GRADE, CONSEQUENTLY IT WILL ALSO AFFECT YOUR FINAL GRADE. IF YOU HAVE DONE REVISION IN YOUR RESEARCH REPORT, then your group should submit the revised version of it to prove that the revision/modification was done. Otherwise, your progress report will not receive the corresponding grade/rating or points.

CE315 Env Engg: Assignment #5: Environmental Decision Making Analysis, due on 31 August 20188/28/2018 The problems are already posted in the CE315 Env Engg link for download. Answers should be handwritten in a short/letter bond size paper.
Follow the instructions carefully - make sure to show your computations and units of measurement. The assignment will be collected during the class hour. THIS TIME, STARTING NEXT WEEK, every group has to submit a weekly report. Classes will resume and the weekly report will be presented in the class. Each member of the group will be asked during the class of their individual contribution to the on-going researches. It was reminded during the class that each group has to check the website regularly for announcements and updates.
NON COMPLIANCE/NON-SUBMISSION will get a grade of 5 or 0/100. PLEASE BE REMINDED THAT THE FINAL GRADE in the subject does not ONLY bear the grades given by the PANEL during the final oral defense, it ONLY constitutes 60% while the remaining 40% will be derived from your RESEARCH PROPOSAL DEFENSE and WEEKLY REPORTS. THERE WILL BE NO EXCUSES, OF EITHER WITHDRAWAL OR RE-DEFEND OF THE FINAL OUTPUT. THERE WILL BE NO CLASSES, however all assignments and progress reports should be handed-over or submitted on the date specified at the Planning Office. Again, LATE SUBMISSION WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED.
To fully utilized your time, ATTENDANCE WILL NOT BE CHECKED but your submission will serve as your attendance. If you have questions, please post your messages in the comment box provided in each of the courses you are enrolled, NOT IN THIS UPDATE POST. Please check the website's updates regularly for future announcements (quiz or assignment). For those who have not received their MIDTERM corrected papers, please get it at the Planning Office. Test papers will be given only to those who asked it personally. Please note that Midterm paper, including QUIZZES are also basis for the FINAL EXAM OR REMOVAL EXAM questions/items. It is encouraged to keep them especially for those students who received failing scores. NOTE: For the comments of the research proposals (RES411), you may ask from the Planning Office staff if it is already available this week. The review is still on-going. Just wait for further announcement on how to proceed with your group proposals. For the e-copies of the power point presentations (RES512), if your group did not submit until this time, you will be INCOMPLETE in the midterm period of requirements. IT IS DISAPPOINTING TO READ THE FIRST DRAFT OF CHAPTER 2. It was clearly reiterated during the class that the format as prescribed in the Guidebook should be followed accordingly. Even the cover page, paging, spacing, and the size of the bond paper were not seriously followed. And the most important part of this draft is the proper citation and referencing using APA style.
PLEASE REMEMBER, if you have cited or mentioned in the text an author, then this author should be found in the Reference List. In other words, all the authors or sources mentioned in the text should be included in the List of References using the APA format.; and vice-versa, the Reference List should contain all the citations or authors that were mentioned in the text. If the reference materials (journals, books, etc.) were not used in the discussion, then do not include them in the Reference List. What is meant by a ''DRAFT"? It means that you have to write the content of Chapter 2 based from the reference materials your group have gathered. What is the point of attaching these journal articles and thesis without writing-up the chapter? The journal articles should be complete - it means that only the abstract but all the pages should be attached in the report. For reference from theses, only the abstract and cover page (author, title, year) are included in the submission. For the second submission, you expected to have a lengthy discussion with the Literature Review. You have to summarize the major findings and recommendations of these reference materials which are relevant to your topic. You can quote, paraphrase and summary them to avoid "plagiarism." Finally, you have to write the summary or synopsis of all these reference materials that provide a link to your study. ON THE OTHER HAND, an abstract is not a requirement for the submission, however, it contains the general background, main objectives and the proposed methodology. You CAN NOT WRITE ABOUT FINDINGS AND RECOMMENDATIONS because YOU HAVE NOT COMPLETED THE RESEARCH YET! Your group can get the copies of your first submission at the Planning Office. If you want to improve the rating of your proposal, then write it properly - following the prescribed format and style as stipulated in the Guidebook. You can view your papers (cover page) at RES411 CE STUDY 1 top bar link. DEADLINE: 28 AUGUST 2018 (TUESDAY). LATE SUBMISSION WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED, THUS A GRADE OF 5.0 OR 0/100 RATING. RESUBMIT ALL HARD COPIES OF THE RELEVANT JOURNAL ARTICLES AND THESIS ABSTRACT. ONLY THE TOP SCORERS are listed here. Majority of the students did not answer the problem solving correctly, particularly Problem #2.
To make sure that every one understands the principle of Technical Analyses, two (2) problems will be posted here as individual assignment for you to answer. Wait for further announcement. FABREGAS, A. (51/47) = 108.51 PASTOR, M N (43/47) = 91.49 DALISAY, M A (43/47) = 91.49 FORCADAS, E J (42/47) = 89.36 BALIGUAT, M J (39/47) = 82.98 Congratulations! Please be reminded of the first progress report submission. LATE SUBMISSION WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED. If you have indicated in your Activity List that you revised the Research Proposal into a Draft Thesis, then you have to submit the revised version of the report to assess that you have done it as reflected in your Progress Report. Please note that the Proposal will be rewritten as a completed research study. It means that you have to change the verb tense in your previous submission. Again, the revised version is now prepared based on the guidebook with the required contents. Any improvement in the previous submission should be indicated in the Progress Report. In addition, the GANTT CHART is only an example and subject to changes based on your research study, provided that the required activities are reflected in the chart (progress, draft report submission, experiment/survey/site visit, fabrication, final defense, and hard copy submission). The progress report will be signed by all students, and noted by the adviser.
