Watch the SONA of our President, Rodrigo Roa Duterte. It is posted at CE315/CE4113 ENV ENGG link. You can find/search it thru YOUTUBE website. With a minimum of 150 words, briefly explain the important concerns on environmental protection that the President emphasized on his speech held last Monday, 24 July 2017. Highlight the major points that the President presented in relation to environmental problems that the country is facing right now and the government wants to tackle or provide solution. It is also recommended that you also watch the 2016 SONA for better appreciation of the goverment's initiatives in combatting environmental problems in the country.
Write your answer in your notebook. Due date: 04 August 2014. Your notebooks will be collected at CET Office. Late submission will not be accepted, thus a "zero" point. Please get the corrected manuscripts from Ms Neng Agas. Revise the proposal based on the comments provided. Overall, use the format/template provided as available in the website. Make photocopies and ask Engr Sim for the names of the members of the Panel of Examiners. Then, give them the photocopies of the research proposal on or before Friday, 04 August 2017. The venue of the oral defense is the Computer Lab, beside CET Office. Prepare the necessary refreshments and lunch for the Panel. Dress in semi-formal attire or in school uniform. The schedule as follows: Civil Engineering - AM session (8:00 - 12:00); Electrical Engineeering - PM Session (1:00-4:00PM) The guidelines for the Power Point Presentation will be posted very soon. Please be reminded that every group has 15-20 minutes presentation and 15 minutes for the Q and A. A maximum of 30-45 minutes deliberation, including the the quick presentation of the alternative choices of research proposals. Please prepare for the second quiz covering the GroupWork#1: Sustainable Development Goals and the Assignment Readings on Cradle-to-cradle Design and Environmental Decision Making Tools/Approaches. You are required to identify seven (7) environmental law and regulations implemented in the country both national and local levels. Local ordinances (municipal and barangay levels) are acceptable. PLEASE AVOID COPYING FROM YOUR CLASSMATES. IDENTIFICAL ANSWERS WILL BE MARKED ZERO POINTS. COMPLETENESS OF THE ANSWERS WILL GET FULL MARK. As fully explained in the class, this groupwork will capture thru your camera/phones the existing problems of your barangay particularly in the issue of waste management and related environmental problems . Maximum of two pages (no cover page), include photos with captions - briefly describing the images taken. You have to take photos of the Materials Recovery Facility (MRF) of the barangay to check if it is functional or not. Highlight in the your report the positive and negative features of the MRF. One barangay per group and no duplication with other groups.
The submission is rescheduled on 24/25 July 2017 to give you ample time to roam around your barangay. Please borrow a book entitled: ENVIRONMENTAL ENGINEERING by VESILIND, P.A, MORGAN, SM. AND HEINE, L.G. (2013) from the library. Read the following sections of the book:
Section 1.3: Sustainability and Cradle-to-Cradle design, page 23-28 Chapter Two: Engineering Decisions, pages 33 - 85 You have to answer the following questions and write them down in your notebooks. 1. What is sustainable material management (SMM)? 2. What is the framework of sustainability? 3. What are the conditions for a society to be sustainable? 4. What is cradle-to-cradle design? What are the three design principles used in Cradle-to-cradle design? 5. What are the benefits derived from cradle-to-cradle design? 6. Examine the two case studies presented in the book. What are the best practices? There will be a graded recitation in the class and your notebook MIGHT BE CHECKED. Please prepare for a quiz on Monday and Tuesday (10/11 July 2017), depending on your block sections. The quiz will cover Handout #1 and the list of national/international environmental events that we celebrate annually. Good luck!
In preparation for the oral title defense on 28 July 2017, please finalize your draft proposal which consists of Chapters 1 to 3, including the ONE-PAGE ABSTRACT PROPOSALS for your back-up topics ON 10 JULY 2017. Please observe the prescribed format/template for the proposal such as paging, spacing, referencing, and other lay-out requirements.
Part of the submission as attached documents to the proposal are: Budgetary Requirements and the Timetable/Schedule of Activities in the conduct of your research. The proposed budget covers all expected expenses from the major activities of your research - from the acquisition of materials, experiments/testing, copying, binding, honorarium of the adviser and members of the panel, including the food during the title defense and final defense. The timetable (in a Gantt Chart) shows the major activities of the study with the proposed number of days/weeks/months to undertake that activity. Please take note that you have until October 2017 to finalize and submit your binded thesis, after your oral presentation. Non-compliance or failure to present your research will get a GRADE OF 5.0, or INCOMPLETE for late submission. |
